How I Started Getting Paid for Content — And How You Can Too
By Glecy · September 18, 2024
Content creation is a real career, and you don't need to be famous to start earning. Here's the honest roadmap I followed.
A few years ago, the idea of getting paid to post on social media sounded like a fantasy. Now it's part of my real income, and I know plenty of girls in Cebu doing the same. Let me tell you exactly how it works.
Understand What Brands Are Looking For
Brands don't just want followers. They want engagement and alignment. A creator with 5,000 highly engaged followers in a specific niche is more valuable to many brands than someone with 50,000 passive followers. Focus on building a real, engaged community first.
Build a Simple Media Kit
A media kit is your resume as a content creator. It should include: who you are, what you post about, your audience demographics, your follower count and engagement rate, and examples of your best content. You can make this in Canva — it doesn't need to be fancy.
Start by Reaching Out, Not Waiting
Most of my early brand deals came because I reached out to them first. I identified small local businesses in Cebu whose products I genuinely liked, sent them a simple message, and offered to create content in exchange for product or a small fee. Some said no. Many said yes.
Be Selective About What You Promote
Your credibility is everything. The moment you start promoting products you don't believe in just for money, your audience will feel it. Only work with brands that align with your values and that you'd genuinely recommend to your best friend.
The content economy is real and it's growing in the Philippines. Your voice has value. Start building it today. 🎥
